Thanks to the participation of the University of Vigo in the ERASMUS HERDADE consortium led by the Escola Superior de Conservación e Restauración de Bens Culturais de Galicia (Spain), our predoctoral researcher Laura Andrés-Herguedas, has made a research stay at the Departimento di Chemica e Chimica Industriale of Università di Pisa (Italy), between 2023-10-01 and 2023-10-31 (31 days).
During that month, Laura was working with the researchers Alessia Andreotti, Maria Perla Colombini and Alessio Ceccarini on irradiation with two Er:YAG lasers (Light Brush 1 and Light Brush 2, both are from El.En Group) on pigments, tempera and cave paintings. They also worked on the determination of the fatty acids, proteinaceous material and triglycerides of the samples. Both lasers operate at 2940nm, while Light Brush 1 performs with the same pulse duration of 150 µs, Light Brush 2 can vary its pulse duration: 150 µs (very short mode), 250 µs (short mode) and 400 µs (long mode). Furthermore, they measured the temperatures induced by the laser radiation of the Light Brush 1 through an infrared sensor.
The project partners are studying the effects caused from a physical, chemical and mineralogical point of view.
