Daniel Jiménez-Desmond: “Effect of UV-A and UV-B radiation on silicate-based paints: fresco and nano-silica-based mock-ups”

Our colleague and predoc-researcher, Daniel Jiménez-Desmond, from the University of Vigo, assisted the 10th International Conference on Metrology for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (#MetroArcheo2024) that took place in Malta last 7th-9th of October.
Within the topic “Time through colors: past, present, and future of pigments and paintings, exploring diagnostics, dating and conservation in cultural heritage” he presented part of his PhD research. His presentation, entitled “Effect of UV-A and UV-B radiation on silicate-based paints: fresco and nano-silica-based mock-ups” manifests the need of evaluating the effect of these UV ranges on historical paintings, such as frescoes, as well as in restoration interventions such as chromatic reintegrations.
