The conference ‘Journey into the Ageing & Alterations of Paintings’ (#JAAP), organized by #NICAS (The Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+), took place on the 3rd and 4th of April at the #Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (The Netherlands). As you can imagine by the name of the congress, very interesting topics on alteration processes in paints were discussed.
Our colleague and predoctoral researcher Daniel Jiménez-Desmond, from the University of Vigo, attended and presented the preliminary results of two studies. On the one hand, part of his PhD research regarding the compatibility of copper pigments with the fresco wall painting technique where the high humidity and high alkaline environment play a crucial role in the blackening process of the paint. On the other hand, Daniel also presented part of the results from the LASERING project, the removal of sooling from tempera paintings by two Nd:YAG lasers was evaluated. The study, carried out at the University of Vigo, in collaboration with the University of Granada and the Instituto Superior Tecnico of Lisbon.
