Daniel Jimenez-Desmond at the Conference

Daniel Jiménez-Desmond assisted TECHNART2025 with a new poster

During the 6-9th of May, our PhD studentDaniel Jiménez Desmond assisted TECHNART2025, the ‘International Conference on Analytical Techniques for Heritage Studies and Conservation’. The conference took place Perugia, Italy.

On the one hand he presented a poster entitled “Laser cleaning of siliceous black crusts from granite collected at Côa Valley Archaeological Park (Portugal)”. This study is being carried out by our colleague Gonzalo J. Buceta Bruneti  from CINTECX, as part of his PhD research, in collaboration with Pablo Barreiro Castro from the Dpt. of Applied Physics. By mechanical (vibro-incisor) and ablation (Nd:YAG laser) means, the removal of siliceous black crusts from rock art paintings was evaluated.

On the other hand, with an oral presentation entitled “Shedding light into the use of verdigris pigment in wall paintings: influence of the painting technique”, Daniel presented the results regarding the instability of this copper acetate pigment in wall paintings. This study is part of a collaboration between the Universidade de Vigo (CINTECX) and Universidad de Granada and has proven the great instability of verdigris in alkaline environments.
