Francesca Zenucchini is Conservator and Laser Specialist at the Centro per la Conservazione ed il Restauro dei Beni Culturali “La Venaria Reale” (CCR), Turin, Italy. She earned her Degree in Conservation in 2003 from the Institute ENAIP Lombardia, Botticino, Italy. In 2003 as part of an Internship at the Conservation Centre of the National Museums and Galleries of Merseyside in Liverpool, UK, she attend a laser training on Cultural Heritage and in 2005 spent one year in Sculpture department applying laser on artefacts belonging the Museum collection and sites in UK. Since 2010, she is lecturer in the subject of “Physics method for conservation” at the University Degree Course in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (UNITO) in Turin, Italy.

Since 2007 at the CCR she has involved in several conservation and restoration projects that require application of different LASER sources Nd:YAG, Er:YAG and Yt:YAG, on numbers of materials, some of her most relevant experience are: The Tomb of Qua el Kebir, Henib’s wall painting, Dynasties XII part of the Egyptian Museum collection. The Fountain of Hercules stone sculptures from the gardens of the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale, XVII century. Ancient finds and wall paintings from Roman times from the archaeological site of Pompeii projects in agreement with the University of Turin. Architectural elements and marble sculpture from the Milan Cathedral. Coromandel Chinese screen 18th century wooden lacquers screen Cavour’s Castle, Italy. Giuseppe M. Bonzanigo (cabinetmaker at Savoy’s Court 18-19 century) wooden and ivory micro sculptures. Pietro Piffetti furniture’s (Piedmonts’ cabinetmakers of the 18th century). Ancient Egyptian painted wooden sculptures and coffins, Turin’s Museo Egizio. Archaeological textile as bandages, shrouds and straps of mummies as well as painted cartonnage from museums MAET and ME collection in Turin.

She has involved in a number of scientific research projects as well as conservation tasks concerning the use of LASER mainly testing the application of different laser sources on a variety of materials as such as wood, textiles, metals, ivory, pigments, stones, wall paintings, archaeological and polychrome surfaces including from the Roman and Egyptian era. 2007 NANOMAT project, aimed at scientifically investigating the use of LASER as cleaning method on art works, funded by Piedmont in Italy. 2016 Vatican Coffin project, international research project dedicated to the study of wooden coffin launched by the Vatican Museum with the participation of the Egyptian Museum of Turin, Musée du Louvre, and CRR des Musée de France and the Rijksmuseum of Leiden. 2017 Research project concerning graffiti vandalism affecting heritage architecture: study of the effectiveness of different graffiti cleaning procedures and evaluation of anti-graffiti coatings. 2017-2020 A BRIDGE BETWEEN EAST and PIEDMONT, technical-scientific study of western and Piedmont artistic realization of “China” lacquer, case study the LASER cleaning of a Coromandel Chinese screen from XVII Century. 2019 CAPuS, project for the development of guidelines for the protection and conservation of contemporary works of art, belonging to street and urban art.
