MSc Daniel José Jiménez-Desmond is a predoctoral investigator at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Engineering at the University of Vigo, tutored by PhD José Santiago Pozo-Antonio (University of Vigo) and PhD Anna Arizzi (University of Granada). Daniel holds a BSc in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (2018), and a MSc in Science and Technology in Architectural Heritage (2019). He is now in his second year of the PhD programme ‘Protection of Cultural Heritage’ of the University of Vigo. He currently has a contract as a technician at the CINTEXC (Centre for Research in Technologies, Energies, and Industrial Processes of the University of Vigo). His main research line is devoted to the characterization of the materials in the tangible Cultural Heritage, their deterioration and restoration treatments. As part of his thesis, on the one hand he is carrying out a study on the alteration of pigments used in fresco wall paintings (i.e., on a fresh lime plaster) when exposed to different natural environments. On the other hand, he is also studying the compatibility between pigments mixed with a nano-silica-based binder, as a chromatic reintegration technique, and fresco paintings.

He also has a more than three-year experience in the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage field. He has worked in different archaeological sites in southern Spain, such as the Roman-Iberian site of Cástulo (Linares, Jaén, Spain), the Roman Vila of Río Verde (Marbella, Málaga, Spain), the Vega del Mar Paleochristian Basilica and the thermal baths of Las Bóvedas (San Pedro de Alcántara, Málaga, Spain) and the Phoenician archaeological site of Cerro del Villar (Málaga, Spain). His work experience is focused on wall paintings, archeological objects (ceramics and metals) and easel painting.
