MSc.  Enrique M. Alonso Villar is a researcher at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Engineering at the University of Vigo. He holds a BSc in Energy Engineering (2016), a MSc in Mining Engineering (2018), and currently he is a PhD student in Protection of Cultural Heritage under the supervision of Teresa Rivas Brea and José Santiago Pozo Antonio. His research is devoted to the chemical, mineralogical and petrographic characterization of materials used in ancient and contemporary cultural heritage, both archaeological and architectural, such as rocks, paintings (ancient and modern), concrete and bricks, joint mortars and cave paintings. He has developed analytical capacities for the diagnosis of the degree deterioration of these materials in cultural heritage as well as the assessment of the effectiveness and durability of protective treatments (especially paints), adhesives, consolidants and waterproofing treatments.

He has published 6 research papers in JCR journals (Q1), and 3 communications to international congresses. He has supervised 5 degree and master thesis. He stayed a total of 3 months of international research stay at the University of Turin (2021-2022). He has been part of the European project CAPuS: Conservation of art in Public Spaces (2018-2020). He has been awarded the Prize for the Best Academic Record of the 3rd Promotion of the Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering at the University of Vigo (2016/2018) by the Official College of Mining Engineers of the Northwest of Spain.
