Dr. José Santiago Pozo Antonio is a senior (Ramón y Cajal) researcher at the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Engineering at the University of Vigo. He holds a BSc in Mining Engineering (2009), a MSc in Environmental Technology (2010), and a PhD in Environmental Technology (2013). His main research line is devoted to the characterization of the materials in the tangible Cultural Heritage (CH), their deterioration and also the different treatments to conserve them, i.e., cleaning, consolidation and water-repelling. This research line is composed by 4 different sub-lines: 1) characterization of CH materials and their deterioration forms, 2) evaluation of cleaning, consolidation, and water repelling procedures, 3) non-invasive techniques applied to built CH, and 4) green alternatives to mitigate heritage deterioration.

He has published more than 90 research papers in SCI-JCR journals (h-index: 19), and more than 100 communications to international and Spanish conferences. He has supervised 2 PhD thesis. He stayed a total of 36 months at foreign research institutions, i.e., Getty Conservation Institute (USA, 2013-2014), Instituto Superior Tecnico (Portugal, 2015-2016), Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser at Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (Greece, 2016-2017), etc.

Since 2018 he is the Subdirector of External Relations and Mobility of Mining and Energy Engineering School at University of Vigo. He is the coordinator of the teaching innovation group XEODA (Teaching-oriented Geology) and belongs to the teaching innovation group ODS Cities and Citizenship, both at University of Vigo. Since 2022, he belongs to the International Steering Committee of LACONA (Lasers in the Conservation of Artworks). Dr. Pozo Antonio has experience in programs to promote scientific-technological concerns through the STEMbach programs and he belongs to the Inspira STEAM program of the University of Vigo.
